• Cherry eye – When an eye gland becomes prolapsed and causes the Newfypoos eyelid to become inflamed. Typical signs are swelling and a dry eye. This is usually fixed by surgery.
• Progressive retinal atrophy – Several degenerative diseases cause problems to the photoreceptor cells in the Newfypoos eyes. Over time the cells in the eyes deteriorate and cause blindness.
• Subvalvar aortic stenosis – When the heart’s aortic valve narrows, it causes a murmur and weak impulses. This can cause severe problems for dogs contributing to heart attack and significantly reducing their lifespan.
